What will the audition involve?
Auditions will take the form of a group workshop led by director Nina Lemon. They will be fun drama based sessions designed to help give her a good idea of participants’ abilities.
We are an inclusive youth theatre so offer group membership to anyone regardless of ability or previous experience.
Unless we receive an overwhelming number of applications then everyone who auditions will be offered the opportunity to take part in HDM part 2 or one of our other productions. The purpose of the audition is to find out what kind of roles they would best suit.
Participants do not need to prepare anything but should come with a snack and a drink and in clothes that they can move in easily.
Those auditioning who are not already members of Peer Productions will need to have an audition form signed by a parent or carer.
How do I book my audition?
To ensure that we have enough staff to supervise participants and that we do not end up with groups too large to adequately assess the young people, we ask that students who are not already members of Peer Productions book a place in a workshop audition in advance.
You can do this in two ways.
1. By downloading the audition form, filling it out and emailng it back to us at admin@peerproductions.co.uk We will have a hard copy ready to be signed by parents when participants are dropped off.
2. By calling the plays director Nina Lemon on 07815 148413. If you get the answer phone please leave your telephone number and if possible your email address.
To download a form click here.
What time should I come?
Please arrive 15 minutes before the audition to register
2pm - 4pm
8 - 12 year olds (Stage 1).
4pm - 6pm
13 - 15 year olds (Stage 2)
7pm - 9pm
16- 23 year olds (Stage 3)
If you are on the cusp of our age bands then come along to which ever session you feel you will be most comfortable.
How much will I have to pay?
There are no audition fees.
Peer Productions will be holding open auditions for each play but once cast actors are expected to pay a termly fee of £60/£30 sibling discount to be a member of the group.
As this audition will be taking place half way through a term students joining for the production will only be charged for half the first term (£30/£15).
Will there be any additional costs?
Each cast member will be required to purchase a copy of the script (approx £10). This can be done through Peer Productions.
We may ask for actors to provide ‘blacks’ or ‘whites’. These are plain black/white T shirt and trousers which, if they do not already have them, can be purchased very cheaply from local supermarkets.
On occasion we may ask cast members, with their parents permission, to borrow items from home.
All other costumes, props etc will be paid for by Peer Productions.
Some students may require a licence to perform from their local authority. If this is the case parents will be expected to pay for any passport photos or doctors notes required. Licences are easily obtained, and will be administrated by Peer Productions near to performance dates.
Tickets for the production will be £12.50/£10 (concs) and we are hoping that frineds and family will make every efort to support the production.
Will I keep my part for both plays?
Basically, the answer is no! The second play will be cast separately next year to try and ensure that more people get a chance. This said one or two actors may keep their roles.
How does the production effect my usual youth theatre session?
From October half term onwards Peer Productions youth theatre will move away from its set workshop pattern. Every group member is guaranteed a minimum of 2 hours each week although some actors will be required for more time. a full rehearsal schedule will be provided.
What if my child doesn’t like it?
If your child is unhappy for any reason Peer Productions will make every effort to work with you to improve the situation. If your child continues to be unhappy and wishes to leave we will refund you for the remainder of the term.
How big a commitment will this be?
This production has an enormous cast so levels of commitment will vary. Please be honest about your other commitments on the audition forms as this will enable us to cast more fairly.
My child has big school commitments this year. Can they still be involved?
Our audition forms ask you and your child to give us details of their school commitments.
If this is a big year for them they are still welcome to be involved but we will try to ensure that they do not take on too much.
We expect our students to discuss possible clashes well in advance so that we can be flexible with arrangements.
With drama, a missing actor effects the whole company. We are therefore not able to agree to last minute missed rehearsals for birthday parties, finishing homework or similar.
Persistent failure to attend rehearsals without good reason will result in parts beings given away to other actors.
My child has a disability. Will this be a problem?
As an inclusive company, we try to make our work accessible to everyone. Nina Lemon, who is directing the play, has a wide range of experience working with young people with disabilities.
Please give us as much information as possible on the audition form so that she can best adapt the work to suit your child’s needs.
If you would like to discuss your child’s specific needs please call Nina in confidence on 07815 148413.
Will parents be able to watch the audition?
For practical reasons we prefer for parents to leave their children during auditions. We also find that children perform better without too many people watching them. If you feel that your child may find this stressful for whatever reason please give us a call and we will do all we can to put them at ease.
Can parents get involved?
Child protection laws require us to carefully monitor any adults working with our students. We therefore may require you to undergo a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure before we can let you volunteer with us.
This aside we are very keen to hear from parents who want to get involved with chaperoning, costume, or set design.
