Drama At The Hustings
Liberal Democrat leader Sir Menzies Campbell walked into a drama when he visited Woking on Tuesday.
Young actors of Knaphill-based Peer Productions gave a short performance of street theatre. They took as their theme crime as it affects young people today, which is a part of the Xclusion series they are planning for visits to Surrey schools.
Sir Menzies, formerly director of a theatrical company in Edinburgh said: "Talking to the actors and actresses I was impressed by the understanding and imagination they showed. The wrote the play themselves fairly recently and also directed, bringing total realism to the production. It seems to reflect exclusion, violence, weapons and disfunctional families in a matter of about 10 minutes, producing a cameo of all the issues that affect young people, whether individually or collectively."
He said that his party believed in tackling crime by being smarter rather than tougher and being innovative and imaginative instead of stalling.
