Full Time Course Launch
A full time drama course which could change the lives of talented young people has been launched by a new youth arts training company.
Peer Productions, the brainchild of Surrey theatre makers Jason Orbaum and Nina Lemon, is looking for 24 young performers aged 16 to 23, to work with from January to July next year at Woking Youth Arts Centre in Knaphill.
Jason and Nina have several years of experience working with youngsters and already run the thriving Peer Productions Youth Theatre at the centre in Trinity Road.
Nina said that the groundbreaking course is designed to be more than actor training, and will take in a wide variety of skills and give the young people a chance to lead community arts projects and take their productions on tour to schools and youth groups. She added that the students would be able to work towards an Arts Award Gold Certificate.
Jason said: "We want to give young people a thorough grounding in all aspects of the business and this includes learning the practical things, like how to manage your finances as a freelance arts worker and how to promote yourself."
The scheme, supported by Surrey Youth Development Services, Global Grants and the Local Network Fund, will involve a range of special projects.
