July 06 New Youth Theatre

Jason Orbaum and Nina Lemon are no strangers to youth theatre. The driving force behind the hugely successful Xpress Theatre Company in Camberley, they currently have more than 200 students and bulging waiting lists for coveted places. Together, they have decided to bring their formula to Woking in a new venture entitled Peer Productions.

Peer Productions are setting up a youth theatre group at the newly opened Woking Youth Arts Centre at Trinity Road, Knaphill. The first term of workshops begin this Sunday (September 16th) and places are still available for those in the Woking area who register quickly. “We run a fully inclusive policy at our groups.”, said Nina Lemon, “Any child who wants to join is welcome, regardless of ability.  We will bring their latent talents to the surface, improve their confidence and self-esteem, and give them the chance to take part in a major production every year at the Rhoda McGaw theatre.”

“I’ve lived in Woking all my life.”, adds Jason Orbaum, “all my plays have premiered here, and I was in Woking Youth Theatre’s very first play, more than twenty years ago.  With Woking Youth Theatre having closed down there is a need, now more than ever, for a strong youth theatre led by experienced professionals.”

The autumn term runs from September 16th until November 26th will a week off for half term on October 22nd. At present there are two age bands: 8-13s will meet at 2-4 pm, and 13-19s will meet at 4-6 pm. There are three ways to register: To be guaranteed a place go to www.peerproductions.co.uk and follow the links to youth theatre. Those without web access can call Jason on 07811 157147 or bring their child along a quarter of an hour before classes start to register them for the term.

The ten weeks cost £60. A sibling discount is available if bringing more than one child. Fees are payable termly in advance but a no-quibble refund of unused weeks will be issued if your child has to leave mid-way through term for any reason.
