Childrens Theatre Shows
Finding the right production for a group of young people can prove challenging. Productions are often over done (e.g. Bugsy Malone and Annie), the rights are unavailable (e.g. Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and Oliver) or they are too adult in their content (e.g Cabaret and Miss Saigon) or too difficult for many young voices (pretty much anything by Sondheim).
These are not the only challenges which a youth theatre producer faces;
Will the young cast engage with the piece and believe in it?
Will this translate into a decent box office return?
Are their sufficient parts for enough children and young people to play a significant role?
Does the piece offer a suitable number of roles for both boys and girls? This is particularly difficult if your group, like many, is particularly girl heavy.
Does the piece offer roles for those who prefer acting to singing?
At Peer Productions we try to engage our youth theatre in the selection of our shows because we believe that through this consultation we can find the best choices for our young actors.
