The Shakespeare Project
February 2010 - April 2010
This exciting and innovative new drama production is designed for Year 8 English students and aims switch young people on to Shakespearean language. The production is:
- - Modern - a story about a group of rebellious girl teenagers, using modern language interwoven with Shakespearean language. The plot follows the main Shakespearean themes of murder, love and revenge - setting them all on a modern setting with the aim of clearly demonstrating to students how relevant Shakespeare and his stories still are.
- - Interactive - with some lines read out by audience members.
- - Multi-media - our bank of screens help ground the story in reality with faux-news footage, annotations, and thematic notes clearly displayed throughout.
- - Funny - this black comedy about three very bad girls satirises a typical English secondary school with merciless caricatures of staff and students.
- - Bloody - In the true traditions of Shakespeare the play ends
with very few characters left alive (but don't worry - we perform the
piece on a waterproof floor-cloth so all the washable 'stage' blood
stays contained within the set!).
All the main texts studied at Year 8 are included - the play takes elements from each including key passages, themes and characters.
